Reiki is a non-intrusive, natural form of healing that can support and enhance other forms of treatment, including conventional medicine and other healing therapies.
Reiki is a Japanese word most often translated as “universal life-force energy” and signifies a vital, life sustaining energy which is believed to flow throughout the human body and through all living things, through a network of fine subtle channels called meridians, as well as flowing outside the physical body as an energy field called an aura. I’m sure you’ve heard of auras and energy! All living things are made up of energy. This energy goes by many names such as ki, chi or prana. Reiki is not a religion, it is a tool for healing the whole person.
Receiving a Reiki treatment from a Reiki practitioner means relaxing, fully clothed, either laying down on a table or sitting on a chair while the practitioner gently places their hands, non-intrusively, on or near the body. There is no pressure, no massage or manipulation. The whole person is treated rather than specific symptoms. The Reiki Energy will flow to where it is needed the most. Reiki is “holistic”, meaning it affects the whole person – mind, body and spirit. It encourages deep relaxation and a sense of well-being, which in turn assists the body’s own healing ability. Our bodies are amazing! Just think of a small paper cut on your fingers – it heals without much intervention from you!
